Denise Dillon is an American women’s basketball coach working as at Villanova, returning to her alma mater from Drexel, where she was the program’s most successful coach since it moved to Division I in 1982-83.
She has been at the helm of the Dragons program since 2003 and has been named the CAA Coach of the Year for 2005, 2009, 2018, and 2019. Dillon led the Dragons to the CAA Championship in 2009 and a berth in the NCAA Tournament that year. The star of that team was Gabriela Mărginean, a junior at the time who would go on to become the all-time scoring leader in the Philadelphia area history of women’s basketball collegiates.
After the championship season, Dillon led the Dragons to four straight WNIT appearances, the program’s first-ever postseason victory over Fairfield in the 2012 WNIT, and the 2013 WNIT championship. She was a star basketball player at the University of Villanova from 1993 until 1996.
At Villanova, she obtained three All Big-East honors. She has just become the 12th player to score 1,000 points in school history. She later worked as an assistant to the 1997-2001 Wildcats basketball team. Dillon was enshrined in the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame for her playing career, the Villanova Wildcats Hall of Fame, and her native Delaware City, Pennsylvania Athletics Hall of Fame.
